More than 110 European entities, including major companies such as ASML, SAP, and Mistral AI, have urged the European Union to delay the implementation of the AI Act. In a letter addressed to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, they warned that the current regulations could hinder innovation and create uncertainty, especially in the absence of final guidelines and a compliance code of conduct.
The letter calls for postponing the rules related to general-purpose AI models and high-risk systems, amid concerns that heavy fines could threaten companies. The AI Act, passed in 2023, mandates transparency in model training, respect for copyright, and strict risk management measures, with penalties reaching up to 7% of annual global revenue.
