In a bold move in the race to develop artificial intelligence, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, revealed a massive project to build a Manhattan-sized data center, the largest in the world, during a tech conference on July 16, 2025.
The project involves creating a massive infrastructure dedicated to supporting Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), the next generation of intelligence systems capable of thinking and learning independently.
Highlights of the project:
Project Prometheus: A supercomputer data center starting in 2026.
Project Hyperion: A state-of-the-art center with 5 gigawatts of power.
Record budget: Meta has raised its capital spending to between $64 billion and $72 billion for 2025.
Attracting AI geniuses: Contracts can exceed $200 million per researcher.
The goal of these investments is to outperform competitors in the field of artificial general intelligence and build systems that exceed the ability of humans to think and analyze in various fields.
Zuckerberg emphasized that Meta will not only compete, but will seek to become a global leader in this field in the next few years.
